Charles Owens – Owner of La Terraza Guest House B&B in Grecia, Costa Rica

Hola! Thank you for visiting my webpage! My name is Charles Owens. Owner of La Terraza Guest House B&B in Grecia, Costa Rica. Unlike most permanent residents of Costa Rica, I live in two countries. I enjoy living in Atlanta, Georgia, and Grecia, Costa Rica. When summertime ends in one place, I go to the other. It’s almost like living an endless holiday.

La Terraza Guest House B&B is located in San Roque Abajo de Grecia, Costa Rica. Our Guest House B&B is a prominent fixture in the community and very interactive, especially with our guests. La Terraza is not merely a place to lay your head down. We encourage our guests to participate in Authentic Tours and invite local Expats to meet you for breakfast and share their experiences. The Guest House is located in Grecia in the Alajuela province, 29 kilometers (18 miles) from San Jose International Airport, taking Route 1 and a 35-minute drive.

La Terraza is the first African American owned B&B in Costa Rica with over 20 years as the number one TripAdvisor accommodation in our area. We are also in the top 10 B&B’s in Costa Rica. For more than two decades, using an extensive network of locals, professionals, and other Expats, we have helped hundreds of International Expats fulfill their dreams of making Costa Rica their home. Last year 7 of your guest purchased homes in Costa Rica.

We believe in sharing non-sugar coated truths about your desire to move to Costa Rica. If you require a home away from home, facts on demand, and a trustworthy network of locals and professionals, take the 35-minute ride upon your arrival from SJO and visit La Terraza Guest House B&B. We are here specifically to help you.

We are located smack-dab in the middle of the nation; the Central Valley contains the heart and soul of Costa Rica. About 70 percent of the country’s population inhabits this region, including the bustling metropolis of San Jose, incorporated suburbs, and significant surrounding towns such as Grecia, Heredia, Alajuela, and Cartago. The San Juantamaria Airport (SJO) in Alajuela is the country’s largest international airport, and the region’s central location serves as an ideal take-off point for destinations throughout the country. Several of our guests stay with us upon arrival and once again upon departure.

Grecia isn’t a tourist city but is an essential city to Costa Rica. There aren’t transportation options like shared shuttles that you find in predominantly tourism cities.

Often tourists arrive at SJO headed to beach destinations, not realizing that the Central Valley is the number one tourist spot for local nationals. We do not have direct buses to attractions, so the easiest way to get around is by rental car, Uber, or private driver. However, the public bus to Grecia is perfect from San Jose, and the drive is not bad.

The drive from San Jose International Airport is not a bad one. The route goes through the highway for the most part, and the roads are paved in town. You can use Waze or Google Maps to find us.

There are buses between Grecia and San Jose every 10 minutes during rush hour and every 30 minutes from 04:00 AM to 08:30 PM. From San Jose to Grecia, the service works from 05:40 AM to 10:20 PM.

Grecia isn’t a big city, but it’s not that small either.

Grecia’s popularity with American and Canadian retirees makes it one of the largest expatriate communities in Costa Rica. This city attracts those who like the city, want to be near the airport, but don’t want to live in San Jose. Most of the Expatriates who relocate to this area without children are, on average are fifty years old and older. However, with the advancement of technology and many working as digital nomads, the average age is rapidly decreasing.

Suppose you do have children and are considering relocating to Costa Rica. Grecia is a beautiful place for kids to grow up as they’ll be completely immersed in Costa Rican culture since it’s not that Americanized as most coastal towns.

If you love fresh mountain weather, Grecia has precisely that. It doesn’t get too hot like the coast, it’s not humid, and the air always feels crisp and clean. There also is no need for airconditioning. The average temperature in Grecia in the dry season is around the 80s F (26 C) during the day and cools down at night. There’s always a comfortable breeze, and the air is so crisp.

When it comes to things to do, it’s close to the city and other attractions, so you’re in a great location. You can easily visit Sarchi and go shopping at the Fabrica de Carretas Eloy Alfaro and see the giant ox cart by car. You can visit other small towns are Zarcero to see the topiary gardens, Bajos del Toro for hiking, Atenas, and San Ramon.

Some natural attractions for day trips from Grecia are Catarata del ToroPoas Volcano National Park, and La Paz Waterfall Gardens.

As Grecia sits at the ideal elevation for growing coffee, there are many capitals (coffee plantations) around. You can take a coffee tour at Doka Coffee Estate, Tio Jose, and Espiritu Santo Coffee Tour.
